Planetarian [PSP] in English!

Planetarian is a Japanese post-apocalyptic visual novel developed by Key in 2004 and is rated for all ages. Key defines Planetarian as a "kinetic novel", since its gameplay offers no choices or alternate endings. Instead, the player proceeds through the story solely by reading.

This patch converts the Japanese PSP version of the game to an English one. It works with all versions of the game. The translation was taken directly from the fan-translated PC version.

To install this patch unpack the archive to a directory, copy the iso of the game to the same directory, rename the iso to Planetarian.iso and then run the batch file.

Obviously you will need a PSP with custom firmware to play the game. Unfortunately it doesn't work well with the current emulators and although PPSSPP may seem fine at first, it will freeze on a video near the end...

The patch can be downloaded here.

Petka 3 - The Return Of Alaska in English!

Petka 3 -  The Return of Alaska is a Russian adventure game developed by Saturn Plus and published by Buka Entertainment in 2001. It's the third installment of the most famous Russian adventure game series, with the last one, Petka 9 - Proletariat Glamor, being released in 2009. Unfortunately, like most of Russian adventure games, it was never released in English.

This patch converts the Russian retail release of the game to an English one. The voices, obviously, still remain in Russian, but everything else has been translated into English.

I bought my copy from the Russian electronic store www.Kniga.ru which is one of the few who ship video games outside Russia.

To install this patch unpack the archive to the game directory and run the executable, choosing yes when asked to replace the files.

You can download the patch here.

I also wrote an English walkthrough which can be found here.

And don't forget, F1 brings up the map!

Enjoy!

Tanita: Plasticine Dream - French-to-English patch

Tanita is a quirky Russian stop-motion claymation adventure game that was released in 2006. It's very similar to the cult classic The Neverhood. It's also quite hard!

Unfortunately the English version was never released in retail. This patch converts the French retail release [Tanita - Une Aventure Aquatique] to the English one. Actually the game has no dialogue (except for one spoken line!) and no in-game text, so the only thing that needed localizing was the main menu.

The French retail release is DRM-free. Install the game from the original DVD and then apply the patch. You can change the resolution of the game by editing the config.info file. And although the game was made in 4:3 resolution you can even use widescreen resolutions with no problem. The first time you run the game, go to the menu and turn the Sound volume all the way up, else you won't hear any sound effects.

You can download the patch here.

There's a very tough frog shooting arcade mini-game. If you can't pass it, just download this Easy Frogs patch here. It makes the mini-game a lot easier and it doesn't affect your saves.

I also wrote a walkthrough in English since I couldn't find one. You can download it here.

Alternativa - German-to-English patch

Alternativa is a Czech adventure game released in 2010 by Centauri Production.

This patch converts the German retail release of Alternativa to the official 100% English version of the game. The result is the Steam-free and DRM-free final English version of the game with all the latest patches applied. Simply install the game from the DVD and then apply this patch. No other patches should be applied afterwards because they will overwrite the English files!

Like most of my German games, I bought my copy from the German Amazon online store.

You can download the patch files here: file1 file2  You need both files!

Enjoy!

Tony Tough 2 - A Rake's Progress in English!

Tony Tough in A Rake's Progress, although released in 2006, is actually a prequel of the 1998's Night of Roasted Moths. It's a coming of age story, which while it is filled with hilarious dialogue, it also deals with some dark and mature themes. Like many other great adventure games it was never released in English, probably due to the hundreds of little bugs that plagued it, and unfortunately I'm talking literally! There's nothing game-breaking really, and I've managed to fix all text-subtitle related ones, but be prepared for a couple of crashes to the desktop during your whole playthrough.

This translation patch converts the German retail version of the game (Tony Tough 2 - Der Klugscheisser Kehrt Zurück) to an English one. Except the speech, which remains in German, everything else has been professionally translated into English. No machine translations here. You can find the game on the German Amazon online store.

To install the patch, simply extract the contents of the archive to the game directory and run the executable. Then press Install and agree to overwrite the file. I strongly suggest you install the official patch for the German version first. It doesn't conflict with the translation patch in any way. For your convenience, you can find this file here.

You can download the English translation patch here.

I wrote a walkthrough in English, which also details the various bugs I encountered, and which you can download here.
